Where is Ursula Franklin Academy located and is it difficult to get to?
UFA is located in Bloor West Village, closest to Runnymede Station. As long as you are able to get to a subway station, UFA is not difficult to travel to! From Runnymede station it is a simple walk to the school. For detailed directions, see location
I don't know anyone coming in to UFA. Will this be a problem?
This will not be a problem at all! UFA is not anyone's home school, so you won't be the only one that doesn't know people. At the beginning of the year, you will have the opportunity to participate on the grade 9 retreat, organized by the PALS. Also, UFAs Enriched Wednesday Sessions are open to all grades, and this allows for lots of friendships to be made based on interests, not just grade!
Is the uniform costly?
The uniform at UFA can be bought either directly from UFA, or McCarthy's. If you purchase the uniform directly from UFA, you will be supporting some great programs at UFA such as Enriched Wednesday Sessions. There are also used uniform sales where you can pick up gently used pieces for a significantly reduced price. To learn more about the uniform, see Uniform Policy.l
How can I become involved in the school community?
If you are a parent, you can join SAC and become involved in the community. SAC is comprised of parents who care about UFA and want to work to make it the best it can be!
If you are a student, there are many clubs you can join in order to become an active member of UFA's community. You can also run your own Wednesday session with the help of a teacher.
I'm worried about the cost of the grade 9 retreat/trip to Italy/field trips. Is this going to be a problem?
Not at all! At UFA, we encourage all students to go on trips regardless of financial situation. We are able to subsidize students who need it. A student needs to talk to the teacher organizing the trip or an office administrator to arrange financial aide for a specific trip.
